In 1895, Griess opened a brewery on the corner of Bodega and Upham, United States Brewery. By 1907 it was producing 40 barrels of beer a day! Griess died in 1914. January 16, 1919, The US Congress passed the 18th Amendment, a Wartime Prohibition Act for the manufacture, transportation, or sale of alcoholic beverages.
